In a remarkable collaboration, the Association of Women in Agriculture Kenya (AWAK), alongside the Chief and local farmers, orchestrated a momentous Tree Planting exercise in Kavisuni ward, Kitui county, in alignment with the National Tree Planting holiday. The event, which took place today, witnessed the collective efforts of the community in fostering a greener and more sustainable future.

AWAK generously donated tree seedlings, which found their new homes in 5 schools, 3 churches, and the chief’s camp in Kavisuni location. Fruitful endeavors continued as the seedlings were distributed among the 60 village elders and local farmers present, encouraging them to plant and nurture these saplings in their respective farms.

The heart of this successful exercise beats in the tireless efforts of Eunice Bahati, the dedicated champion from Kitui county. Eunice, recognized as the county champion, worked ardently to coordinate the event. Her commitment to the cause was evident as she collaborated closely with the county extension technical team, ensuring a thorough plan for the growth and nurturing of these trees to maturity.

AWAK, with its overarching vision of implementing a comprehensive land restoration and climate action program, has set an ambitious target of planting a minimum of 10 million trees within the next decade.
