World Soil Day 2023/✅ Kenya Food Systems and Land Use Action Plan 2024-2030 Launch!

In a momentous event at the Radisson Blue Hotel in Nairobi, the Association of Women in Agriculture Kenya (AWAK) proudly participated in the World Soil Day 2023 conference and witnessed the official launch of the Kenya Food Systems and Land use Action Plan 2024-2030.

Hosted by the Food and Land Use Coalition (FOLU), of which AWAK is a dedicated member, the conference saw influential figures in attendance, including the Chief Guest, Dr. Paul Rono, Principal Secretary of the State Department of Crop Development and Research. Dr. Rono officially launched the Action Plan, affirming the government’s commitment to its comprehensive implementation.

The discussions at the workshop were rich and diverse, with a primary focus on the critical issue of soil health. Stakeholders were called upon to actively contribute to the promotion of healthy soils for wholesome diets.

➡️ Dr. Paul Rono highlighted the proactive steps taken by Kenya’s Ministry of Agriculture, specifically the Agricultural Soil Management policy, addressing sustainable agricultural soil and water management, soil management and the environment, soil management technology development, and fertilizer development and investment.

AWAK, in alignment with its commitment to soil health, concentrates its efforts on empowering smallholder farmers in rural areas to build and manage healthy soils, ensuring the sustainability of food systems.

As we move forward, AWAK eagerly anticipates collaborating with FOLU Kenya, the Ministry of Agriculture, and other like-minded stakeholders in the implementation of the recently launched Action Plan.
