Which training programs are offered by AWAK?

At AWAK we are committed to empowering women through various training programs aimed at enhancing their skills and promoting economic empowerment. These programs cover a wide range of livelihood aspects , equipping women with the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in their enterprises and empower their communities.

The training programs include

1. Urban Farming in slum areas

AWAK’s urban farming training is designed to address the challenges faced by women living in urban areas, where land availability is limited. Through this training, women learn innovative techniques such as vertical gardening, hydroponics, and rooftop farming. By utilizing available spaces, women have successfully cultivated a wide range of crops, including vegetables, fruits, and herbs. This training has not only enabled women to access nutritious food but has also provided a sustainable source of income through surplus produce sales.

2. Climate-Smart Agriculture

AWAK’s climate-smart agriculture training equips women with the knowledge and tools to mitigate the effects of climate change on their agricultural practices. Participants learn about sustainable farming methods, soil conservation, efficient irrigation techniques, and climate-resilient crop varieties. By implementing these practices, women have been able to enhance their agricultural productivity, adapt to changing weather patterns, and contribute to environmental sustainability.

3. Value Added Baking

The baking training offered by AWAK has empowered women to explore the vast potential in the bakery industry. Participants are taught various baking techniques, recipe development, food safety, and packaging skills. Many women have successfully established their own baking businesses, catering to local demand and even expanding to supply to restaurants, cafes, and events. The training has played a significant role in enhancing women’s economic independence and fostering entrepreneurship within their communities.

4. Agroforestry

The agroforestry training provided by AWAK focuses on the integration of trees and agricultural crops. Women are trained in tree nursery establishment, tree planting techniques, and sustainable agroforestry systems. This training has led to the creation of small-scale tree nurseries, afforestation initiatives, and the development of sustainable timber and fruit production enterprises. Agroforestry has not only improved women’s incomes but also contributed to soil conservation, watershed management, and carbon sequestration efforts.

5. Water Conservation

Through AWAK’s water conservation training, women gain practical knowledge on rainwater harvesting, drip irrigation, and water-saving techniques. By implementing these methods, women have successfully reduced water wastage, improved crop yields, and developed water-efficient farming systems. The training has instilled a sense of environmental stewardship among women, ensuring the sustainable use of water resources and promoting resilience in the face of water scarcity.

6. Clean Energy Solutions: Briquette Making

AWAK’s briquette making training introduces women to the production of clean and sustainable fuel briquettes from kitchen and agricultural waste. Participants learn briquette production techniques, marketing strategies, and business development skills. By engaging in briquette production and sales, women have provided their communities with an affordable and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional charcoal. This training has contributed to reduced deforestation, improved indoor air quality, and increased economic opportunities for women.

7. He4She Training for Men and Boys.

Through our He for She initiative, we extend our training programs to men and boys, emphasizing the importance of engaging all genders in promoting gender equality in agriculture. The He for She training focuses on creating awareness about gender biases, fostering inclusive work environments, and encouraging men and boys to become advocates for women’s rights and equal opportunities in agriculture. By involving men and boys in our training programs, we promote collaborative efforts towards gender equality and empower individuals of all genders to contribute to women’s economic empowerment.

8. Business Development

The business development training offered by AWAK focuses on enhancing women’s skills in financial management, marketing, business planning, and product diversification. By equipping women with these essential skills, AWAK has enabled them to establish and expand their own agricultural enterprises. Through improved business acumen, women have been able to access markets, negotiate fair prices, and create sustainable livelihoods for themselves and their families.

9. Mental Health

Recognizing the importance of mental well-being, AWAK provides mental health training to empower women with coping mechanisms, stress management techniques, and emotional support. By addressing the psychosocial challenges faced by women in agriculture, AWAK ensures the holistic development of its participants. This training has not only enhanced women’s emotional resilience but has also fostered a supportive network of individuals who uplift and empower one another.
