In a vibrant ceremony held this afternoon at the heart of Likoni, Mombasa County, the Association of Women in Agriculture Kenya (AWAK) proudly celebrated the achievements of the 1st Cohort of the Real Gifts Project. The participants, who exhibited commendable dedication and active involvement throughout the training sessions, were honored with certificates of participation and equipped with essential starter kits to kickstart their transformative journey.
Under the comprehensive Real Gifts Project, these dynamic individuals successfully completed training modules covering climate-smart urban farming, clean energy production through briquette making, value addition and food processing techniques such as baking, business development skills, and mental health awareness.
The Likoni informal settlements were abuzz with excitement as the participants received urban farming starter kits, including a specially crafted soil and organic manure mixture, quality seedlings, and gunny bags. Additionally, they were provided with ovens that are expected to play a crucial role in enhancing their livelihoods.
The AWAK team expressed confidence that the participants are now well-equipped and informed to spearhead initiatives related to food security and nutrition, adopt clean energy practices, and make a positive economic impact on both their lives and the community at large.
This milestone achievement was made possible through the generous funding from People in Need Slovakia. The dedicated AWAK field team worked tirelessly to ensure the success of the project, further emphasizing the commitment of AWAK and its partners to empower women in agriculture.
