The Mombasa International Show 2023 which was officially opened by His Excellency the Deputy President Hon. Rigathi Gachagua witnessed a spectacular display of innovation and sustainable practices in agriculture, perfectly aligned with this year’s theme, “Promoting climate-smart agriculture and trade initiative for sustainable economic growth.”

The Association of Women in Agriculture Kenya (AWAK) took center stage, showcasing remarkable achievements in promoting Food Security & Nutrition, Food processing/Value addition, and Clean Energy. AWAK’s booth, a beacon of ingenuity, presented a live testament to the transformative power of agriculture.

From Urban farming to Baking and Briquette making, project participants from Mombasa’s informal settlements demonstrated how these techniques are revolutionizing their lives and communities. Thanks to the generous support of the Coca Cola Foundation, AWAK has been able to sponsor and mentor individuals who are now driving change through innovative agricultural practices.

In a remarkable partnership with the Mombasa County Government Department of Blue Economy Agriculture and Livestock, AWAK clinched three prestigious awards in the agriculture category, further solidifying their commitment to sustainable agriculture.

AWAK’s impact goes beyond accolades; it’s a tangible force for positive change in Kenya’s agricultural landscape. Visitors to their booth were treated to a firsthand look at the future of agriculture – a future that is not just promising, but already taking root.

As the Mombasa International Show continues, we invite all attendees to visit AWAK’s booth and witness the inspiring journey of these women in agriculture. Their dedication, combined with innovative techniques, is a beacon of hope for a more sustainable and prosperous future.
