In a joyous celebration in Mathare’s Mashimoni ward, the Association of Women in Agriculture Kenya marked a significant milestone—the graduation of participants in the Resilient Recovery Project (RRP). This transformative initiative has been instrumental in empowering vulnerable mothers and fathers in the urban informal settlements of Mathare.

Throughout the month, these resilient individuals actively engaged in skill development trainings sponsored by Croda under the RRP. The project focused on enhancing their expertise in crucial areas such as Food Security & Nutrition, Clean Energy Adoption, and Economic Empowerment. The participants not only became well-versed in these areas but emerged as informed champions, ready to drive positive change within their community.

The highlight of the graduation ceremony was the distribution of urban farming starter kits to each participant. These kits included a carefully crafted mixture of soil and organic manure, along with seedlings and a gunny bag, providing them with the tools to embark on their journey towards sustainable urban farming. Additionally, each beneficiary received a packet of maize flour, symbolizing the anticipation of a bountiful harvest of organically grown vegetables.

The recent rains served as a natural blessing, nurturing the newly planted seeds and emphasizing the potential for a prosperous yield in the near future. The event was honored by the presence of the area chief, Mr. Mugo, who not only attended but also encouraged the graduating beneficiaries to translate their newfound skills into tangible actions. His words resonated with the collective vision of making Mathare a better place through sustainable practices and community engagement.

The graduation of participants in the RRP in Mashimoni ward is a testament to the dedication and resilience of the individuals involved. The Association of Women in Agriculture Kenya extends its heartfelt congratulations to all the graduates, emphasizing the significant impact of their achievements on the community and the ongoing commitment to fostering positive change.
