In a momentous collaboration, the Association of Women in Agriculture Kenya (AWAK) is thrilled to announce its new partnership with Človek v ohrození (People in Need – Slovakia) through their Real Gifts for Vulnerable People project. This strategic alliance aims to make a lasting impact on vulnerable households and communities, fostering sustainable sources of income.

People in Need, a distinguished non-governmental, non-profit organization, is renowned for extending support to those in the greatest need. Their commitment to restoring dignity and freedom to individuals facing challenging circumstances aligns seamlessly with AWAK’s mission.

AWAK, dedicated to working with vulnerable populations, recognizes the immense value that the Real Gifts project brings to its beneficiaries. The initiative will specifically benefit 150 vulnerable mothers residing in the Likoni Slums of Mombasa, Kenya.

Through the generous funding provided by People in Need, AWAK will empower these mothers with start-up kits and comprehensive training. The focus is on establishing urban farming gardens, providing ovens for baking microenterprises, and teaching the production of briquettes from waste. Additionally, participants will engage in business development and mental health sessions, ensuring a holistic approach to empowerment.

The project was officially launched with an urban farming session, emphasizing the promotion of food security and nutrition in urban slums. Participants are equipped to cultivate purely organic vegetables, not only for personal consumption but also for sale, contributing to their economic independence.

AWAK is excited about the positive impact this partnership will have on the lives of vulnerable mothers, ushering in a new era of empowerment, sustainability, and community development.
