Today marks a significant milestone for AWAK as we embark on a transformative partnership with Strathmore University and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) through the Kenya Small Business Development Center (SBDC) project. This collaboration signals AWAK’s unwavering commitment to empowering vulnerable women in urban slums and ensuring their long-term success.
AWAK’s Rural Resilience Program (RRP) has been instrumental in equipping women with essential livelihood skills, but the our dedication extends far beyond the project’s completion. Recognizing the importance of sustainability and lasting impact, AWAK has proactively forged strategic partnerships to support our beneficiaries throughout their entrepreneurial journey.
Today, we proudly announce the onboarding of these exceptional women into the SBDC program. Leveraging the best practices in business development and advisory services from the renowned U.S. Small Business Development Center model, this initiative aims to establish a local network of county-based business centers.
The SBDC project holds immense promise for AWAK beneficiaries, enabling them to capitalize on local and export market opportunities more effectively. By enhancing access to finance, applying market analytics, and benefiting from a supportive business-enabling policy environment at the county level, AWAK aims to strengthen the economic competitiveness of these talented women farmers.
“We are ecstatic about this collaboration and its potential to generate positive impacts, livelihoods, and incomes for our members,” expressed AWAK National Executive Chairlady, Judy Matu. “We envision these empowered women soaring to new heights and disrupting the marketplace with their unmatched competitiveness.”
The partnership with Strathmore University and USAID demonstrates AWAK’s unwavering dedication to providing holistic support to women farmers, ensuring they thrive beyond initial training programs. By establishing strong networks and providing continued guidance, AWAK aims to cultivate sustainable growth, ultimately contributing to the advancement of Kenya’s agricultural sector.
As the business landscape continues to evolve, AWAK remains steadfast in its commitment to fostering innovation and empowering women. This strategic collaboration will undoubtedly unlock tremendous potential, serving as a catalyst for change and prosperity.
As we celebrate this momentous occasion, let us cheer for the extraordinary women of AWAK and their remarkable journey towards disrupting the marketplace.
