Launch of the Phase 2 Resilient Recovery for vulnerable mothers living in urban slums

February 23, 2022

Welcome to our launch of the Phase 2
“Resilient Recovery for vulnerable mothers living in urban slums” on 25th February, in Ngomongo, Korogocho, Nairobi County.

A project we started in 2020 to cushion vulnerable urban households from the adverse effects of COVID-19 pandemic. Most of these households are female led and the only breadwinners lost their sources of livelihood due to the economic disruption that ensued.

Phase one, reached 1500 women with a success rate of 75%. The success stories are deeply encouraging. We have 10 women who now lease land to increase their vegetable production to meet the growing demand. 60% of the beneficiaries have active Bank accounts and are accessing small credits, while all the 75% are in table banking groups. The positive transformation in their households is visible.

We are grateful to Croda International through Croda Foundation for partnering with us to fund sub phase one, of phase 2 ‘resilient recovery for vulnerable mothers living in urban slums. This targets 1000 direct and 13,700 indirect beneficiaries in Nairobi and Mombasa informal settlements.

The interventions touch on several Sustainable development goals;
– Economic Empowerment through food processing and value addition activities
– Food security and climate Action
– Gender Equality and inclusion.
– Continous learning
– Soil health by carbon sequestration
– Strategic partnerships and collaborations.

We will collaborate with Youth Alive! Kenya to implement the Nairobi activities
